“Chief Judge Tydingco-Gatewood is Keynote Speaker”

The Guam Women’s Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce its General Membership Meeting scheduled for Thursday, May 26, 2016, at The View, located at the Pacific Star Resort & Spa.

GWCC’s keynote speaker will be the Honorable Frances Tydingco-Gatewood, Chief Judge of the District Court of Guam. Prior to being sworn in as Chief Judge, Frances became Guam’s first Chamorro woman Assistant Attorney General in the Prosecution Division from 1984 to 1988 and became Guam's first Chamorro woman Chief Prosecutor from 1990 to 1994. She was then appointed to a trial judge position in the Superior Court of Guam where she authored hundreds of decisions and orders and presided over numerous cases, including high profile criminal cases, multi-party complex civil litigation cases, family court, juvenile court, traffic court, and probate matters.

In addition to nearly eight years of trial experience in the Superior Court of Guam, Judge Tydingco-Gatewood served as a designated federal judge for the District Court of Guam. In 2001, Frances was appointed as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of Guam. During her tenure at the Supreme Court of Guam, Justice Tydingco-Gatewood was also appointed to serve as a designated Associate Justice for the CNMI. She was sworn in as the Chief Judge of the District Court of Guam on October 30, 2006, becoming Guam’s and the Nation’s first Chamorro woman Chief Judge. She also sits as the Chief Bankruptcy Judge of the District Court of Guam, only one of two judges out of 94 Chief Judges in the nation who must also sit as Chief Bankruptcy Judge. Furthermore, Chief Judge Tydingco-Gatewood is currently the first woman President of the Pacific Judicial Council.

GWCC is also pleased to feature Presiding Judge Alberto Lamorena III at the meeting. His leadership as Presiding Judge of the Superior Court of Guam has led to significant improvements in Guam's judicial development. His successful advocacy of justice with Guam's lawmakers has resulted in the establishment of laws that go far in protecting crime victims and toughening penalties for convicted criminals. The face of Guam's Judiciary today, with the creation of the Supreme Court of Guam and improved services of the Superior Court, is due largely to the leadership, dedication and vision of Presiding Judge Alberto Lamorena III.

A Continental Breakfast will be available beginning at 7:30AM, with the meeting starting at 8AM.

The meeting fee is $19.00 for members and $25.00 for non-members. To RSVP, please visit http://gwcc-general-meeting-may26.eventbrite.com
